Design and Consultation
It is essential that your school network is designed properly, otherwise you will have data “bottlenecks” that slow down the entire network. In most schools the network structure grows organically as your needs for ICT develop around the school or the building structure changes.
We have many years experience of network design and would be happy to visit your school to discuss problems or development of your network.
Wireless Networks
A wireless network is an excellent extension to a normal wired network, but should not be considered as a replacement. Even the latest wireless systems can only transmit data at about one tenth of the speed of a normal wired network. You should always use a standard wired network when your computer is fixed in one place.
However, wireless networks are ideal where you plan to use laptops or netbooks in the school. A wireless network needs to be carefully designed to ensure that you have the coverage that you need in each area. Where you are using a trolley of laptops in one area the wireless network needs to have multiple transmitters to handle the extra workload. We would normally also install a wireless management switch to intelligently balance the load between the available wireless transmitters.
If you are considering a wireless network do call us so that we can discuss your plans and carry out a site survey.
